The disaster has separated the Clancys, yet the rising water is only the first threat. A secret inside Jimmy’s van has drawn armed men who will kill to recover it, placing every survivor in danger. As Todd searches for his family beside plainspoken Mark Sheppard, faith becomes inseparable from the question of who will reach Windy Point first.
Miracle on Windy Point is excellent survival fiction, and unique in that it has a faith-based Christian foundation. Birk’s character writing is at its finest in Juan Martinez, whose compassion is unforgettable when he abandons a search to dig ten-year-old Paul Clancy from a landslide, continuing CPR until the child breathes. Birk builds superb suspense around seventeen-year-old Dennis Clancy when he rappels down a cliff to reset Jimmy Johnson’s exposed ankle, making the teenager’s resourcefulness as exciting as the mess they’re in. Birk keeps us guessing with plenty of twists, which may or may not include helicopters hitting the skids. And there’s a dog! Spot, a rescued Labrador, is as protective of his humans as they come. Birk incorporates faith organically, with prayer bringing moments of hope to frightened people. Well written and immersive, readers who enjoy disaster fiction will adore this.”
